It is no secret that the Republican Party is super homophobic. They are so homophobic that they fought long and hard against marriage equality. They are so homophobic that they largely supported County Clerk Kim Davis’ efforts to deny same-sex couples the right to marry in spite of a Supreme Court ruling. They are so homophobic that they complained loudly when the homosexual men and women serving in our military were finally allowed to come out of the shadows when Obama threw out Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. They are so homophobic that when the Pulse nightclub was attacked and 49 people were murdered, Republican voters asked why we were shoving the fact that is was a gay club down their throats. They are so homophobic that many of their lawmakers have equated being gay to being a child molester. They are so homophobic that they have passed bathroom bills to keep transgender Americans from using the restroom that corresponds with their gender.
You get the picture, they are SUPER homophobic and that’s what makes this so ironic:
Each time there’s a national event that inspires another installation of the “Close Encounters of the Casual Kind” column, we run across more than a few cringe-worthy sex ads on Craigslist. But there’s something about the RNC-themed ads flooding Cleveland’s own Casual Encounters that is subversive and extra filthy.
It seems like every man who’s in Cleveland for the RNC wants to have hot gay anal sex with another dude—or preferably, a giant man-on-man muscle orgy of conservative lobbyists in suits and ties (with maybe the butts cut out of the pants, though).
Many of the Craigslist ads were written in sadomasochistic language, with a particularly competitive streak running through them. Locals and attendees were ready to use, or be used, mercilessly.
Now, it is certainly possible that some of these ads are from people who are trolling the GOP because of their history of being such anti-gay jerks; however, there are pages and pages of ads and they are certainly not all fake.
To be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with men looking for hot, steamy sex with other men. There is a problem, though, when these same people actively seek to hurt the very people they are hooking up with. There’s also a problem when their homophobic rhetoric and Bible thumping leads to hate crimes. It is also proves just how hypocritical the Republican Party is and is another example of why we have to do everything we can to keep Trump out of office and vote as many right-wingers out of office as we can.
Good luck to all the RNC guys looking for some fun with their little holes, though.
