Presidents Obama, Bush Jr., Clinton, Bush Sr., and Carter have been working on special relief efforts for hurricane-devastated areas, efforts that make Trump look like an even bigger asshole than he usually looks. This latest move—a benefit concert at Texas A&M University—not only shows the world what America can do when presidents act like real presidents but also just shames the hell out of Trump.
On October 21st, our five living former presidents will headline “Deep From the Heart: The One America Appeal,” a concert that will feature several Grammy-winning artists including Alabama and The Gatlin Brothers. “Soul Man” Sam Moore will also be there, as will Cassadee Pope, the winner of season 3 of “The Voice.” Rising country star Stephanie Quayle will likewise be there.
George H.W. Bush, our 41st President, issued a statement on the concert that said:
The 43rd President and I, and our distinguished colleagues in this ‘One America Appeal,’ are very grateful to these wonderful performers—some of them old friends, some of them new—for giving their time and talent to help the urgent cause of hurricane recovery in Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean.
It’s important that those affected by these devastating storms know that, even if the path to recovery feels like a road that goes on forever, we’re with them for the long haul.”
All revenue from ticket sales and other proceeds will go to the special hurricane recovery effort that these five presidents launched last month.
It’s funny, in a very sad way: Presidents who are no longer presidents are behaving in a far more dignified and presidential way than the current clown show occupying the White House. We’d say Trump needs to take lessons from these five, and he does, but he won’t because the respect that they have is something he’ll never have, and that infuriates him. This is the man who thinks throwing rolls of paper towels at hurricane survivors is just a brilliant idea.
