Yesterday, CNN’s Anderson Cooper got an earful on his show after he asked Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich just what he thought about Donald Trump’s recent Twitter activity.
Reich, who was actually on the show to promote his latest book, Saving Capitalism: For the Many, Not the Few, couldn’t contain his disgust for the President-elect’s erratic social media behavior. As this interview came right after Trump attacked Carrier union leader Chuck Jones for accurately pointing out that Trump had “lied” about the Carrier deal, Reich told Cooper EXACTLY how he felt about Trump’s tweets, and he held nothing back.
First, Reich attacked Trump for his completely petty and immature behavior:
‘Let me just say, because Donald Trump is probably watching right now, let me just say: With all due respect, Mr. Trump, you are the president-elect of the United States. You are looking and acting as if you are mean and petty, thin-skinned and vindictive. Stop this. This is not a fireside chat. This is not what FDR did.’
Reich then commented on Trump’s desire to control everyone’s First Amendment rights by lashing out every time someone dares to criticize him or call him out. Reich said:
‘This isn’t lifting people up. This is actually penalizing people for speaking their minds.’
Reich also went after Trump for his insane attack on Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg earlier this week, when Trump accused Boeing of “doing a number” on the country after citing an absurdly false $4 billion price tag. Reich said:
‘What you did with Boeing the other day. Minutes after the CEO of Boeing was quoted as saying that you, Mr. Trump … were wrong on international trade, what did you do? You tweeted that Boeing should have an order cancelled, where you called it a $4 billion order.’
And, Reich wasn’t finished. Blasting Trump for his dictator-like attitude, Reich delivered the final blow:
‘So what you, Mr. Trump, would like is for no one, not a CEO not nobody on television, no journalist, nobody to criticize you. You take offense at that. Well you are going to be president very shortly. You are going to have at your command not just Twitter but also the CIA, the IRS, the FBI. If you have this kind of thin-skinned vindictiveness attitude toward anybody who criticizes you, we are in very deep trouble, and, sir, so are you.’

This was probably way more than Cooper bargained for on his show, but it needed to be said.
