Add GOP Representative Joe Barton of Texas to the growing list of men who can’t keep their pants zipped or their mouths shut. Barton is apologizing today for “not using better judgment” in sending a woman a dick pic online prior to his second divorce.
The image initially appeared on Twitter courtesy of an anonymous account run by someone who’s obviously working to destroy everyone’s Thanksgiving dinner appetites.
The tweet was picked up and amplified by people like Shaun King, who notes that Barton was still married at the time this took place (warning: image not safe for work):
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet 68 year old Republican Congressman @RepJoeBarton.
Yeah, he’s married (to his second or third wife, I can’t tell).
No, this wasn’t to her.
Yeah, they say they are the family values party.
Yeah, he has openly campaigned against LGBT rights.

Barton, for his part, insists that each of the relationships he had during that time were consensual, presumably including this one:
Each was consensual. Those relationships have ended. I am sorry I did not use better judgment during those days. I am sorry that I let my constituents down.”
The so-called “party of family values” needs to check its own, and perhaps, maybe, drop its unhealthy obsession with sex. Increasing numbers of them are getting caught in…ahem…compromising positions and reflecting very poorly on their constituents, particularly the evangelicals who are allegedly all about sexual purity. And perhaps they’d all be more willing to condemn people like Donald Trump and Roy Moore, both of whom are sexual predators and should never have been put into office to begin with.
As it is, Barton, like Wes Goodman (an anti-LGBTQ crusader who was caught having sex with a man in his office), now looks like a hypocrite. And the GOP is rapidly shifting from being the “party of family values” to being the “party of fucking hypocrites.”
