Tony Tooke, who serves as the head of the Forest Service, resigned Wednesday in the wake of reports revealing sexual harassment allegations made against the agency and Tooke himself.
As previously reported by PBS Newshour, Tooke faced allegations about relationships he had with subordinates, before he became chief. Tooke, who worked for the agency for nearly four decades, took the top post in September. The allegations against Tooke came to light as part of PBS’s broader investigation into the Forest Service, in which 34 current and former female employees described sexual harassment, sexual assault and multiple cases of misconduct.
Tooke, who was appointed by both Trump and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, sent out an email to all of his employees acknowledging the allegations, but arguing that some of the reports about his conduct contained misinformation.
Here is Tooke’s statement:
I have been forthright during the review, but I cannot combat every inaccuracy that is reported in the news media.”
“What I can control, however, are decisions I make today and the choice of a path for the future that is best for our employees, the Forest Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. I must also think about what is best for my family.”
Many of you have seen the news reports which included the stories from women who told of their experiences with sexual harassment in the Forest Service.”
“I admire their courage… Please know that Forest Service leadership is committed to investing in the changes and resources needed to improve and become much better.”
Once again, another Trump appointee has been forced to resign after it was discovered that they were sexual predators and/or violent wife abusers. It appears that the Republican Party attract so many of these types. Why do Donald Trump and his cronies appoint so many racists, sexists, and rapists? Because Trump himself holds all of those qualities. It’s sickening how our country has a leader that appoints disgusting, inhumane people as part of his cabinet. It will be interesting to see what swamp creature Trump will replace Tooke with.
