Bernie Sanders was my guy. I voted for him in the primary. I cried on the first night of the DNC convention because it was over – the finality of his campaign set in and it was terribly sad. Then I got on board supporting Clinton.
However, Bernie is one of the handful of politicians I feel is a genuinely good guy. He cares. He cares a lot.
Now Bernie is in a really bad place. He energized our youth. He motivated the start of a revolution. And now, all those revolutionaries aren’t quite ready to step in line and use their vote in this election for the common good. I think this is weighing on Bernie. I think the divide that has been created wasn’t what he intended and he knows the ramifications if that divide were to truly fracture the Democratic party – a step backwards for progressives, not forward.
In an effort to bring more people over to Hillary Clinton, Bernie wrote an Op-Ed to pleaded with his supporters. He writes about Donald Trump:
Donald Trump would be a disaster and an embarrassment for our country if he were elected president. His campaign is not based on anything of substance — improving the economy, our education system, healthcare or the environment. It is based on bigotry. He is attempting to win this election by fomenting hatred against Mexicans and Muslims. He has crudely insulted women. And as a leader of the ‘birther movement,’ he tried to undermine the legitimacy of our first African American president.
He then reiterates his support for Hillary Clinton and why:
On virtually every major issue facing this country and the needs of working families, Clinton’s positions are far superior to Trump’s. Our campaigns worked together to produce the most progressive platform in the history of American politics.”
Here is a bullet pointed summary of the platform as described in Bernie’s op-ed:
Bernie HAS moved the Democratic party left in a more drastic shift than we’ve seen in quite a long time. Read his entire op-ed here and then give your friend that is heartsick this guy isn’t our nominee a hug.
Bernie’s is absolutely amazing and he is working hard within the system to evoke change.
