Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner has some explaining to do after the so-called president’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about conversations with the Russian ambassador. Flynn is flipping on Team Trump. Flynn admitted that he was directed by a senior member of the Trump transition team to make contact with Russian officials in December and it was also revealed that Flynn is prepared to testify that Trump, as a candidate, ordered him to make contacts with the Russians.
According to what two former officials with the Trump transition team told Bloomberg, Kushner “called Flynn to tell him he needed to get every foreign minister or ambassador from a country on the U.N. Security Council to delay or vote against the resolution” ahead of a vote condemning Israeli settlements.
According to the report, “Much of this appeared to be coordinated also with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose envoys shared their own intelligence about the Obama administration’s lobbying efforts to get member states to support the resolution with the Trump transition team.”
“Jared called Flynn and told him you need to get on the phone to every member of the Security Council and tell them to delay the vote,” the source said.
And “every member” includes Sergey Kislyak, the Russian Ambassador that Flynn testified he had never asked to delay the vote.
According to BuzzFeed News, a source said that Kushner told Flynn during the phone call that “this was a top priority for the president.” Not only did Kushner order Flynn to contact Kislyak, but he underscored it with how important it was personally to Donald Trump himself.
The source says Flynn took the call at the Trump transition team’s offices in the General Services Administration headquarters in northwest Washington. After hanging up, Flynn told the entire room that they’d have to start pushing to lobby against the UN vote, saying “the president wants this done ASAP.”
Kushner is Trump’s senior adviser, but the former reality show star can’t distance himself from his daughter’s husband like he’s trying to do with Michael Flynn. Besides, Robert Mueller is taking notes.
