Many conservatives are still clinging to the fake watches lie that Christian extremist Robert Lewis Dear — who is a “transgendered leftist activist” according to Ted Cruz — entered the Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and began shooting entirely by chance as he attempted to make a getaway from a botched bank robbery — all while others on the right insist that Planned Parenthood had it coming because, as Dear said in his rantings after the shooting, “baby parts.”
Dear, a man who hates President Obama and abortion, set up propane tanks in the parking lot of the Planned Parenthood facility and went in shooting, killing three — including a police officer — and wounding nine others. After he surrendered, the terrorist said “no more baby parts” — a reference to the fraudulent, heavily-doctored videos from the Center For Medical Progress that have sparked a witch hunt on the part of the right.
According to one of the shooter’s ex-wives, he is an “extremely evangelistic” Christian but “does not follow the Bible in his actions.” She explained that her former husband “says that as long as he believes he will be saved, he can do whatever he pleases.” One of Dear’s neighbors says that the anti-choice terrorist has previously praised those who attack abortion providers, saying they are doing “God’s work.” Dear even referred to the Army of God, a group that maintains an online shrine to “Christ’s prisoners” — people who have killed in the name of being “pro-life” — as “heroes.”
Some may say that he just snapped. Some claim that this was a sign of a good man “losing it” at the thought of baby murder. This might be an acceptible theory — if Dear hadn’t previouslt targeted Planned Parenthood. NBC News notes that the shooter seems to have been opposed to the health organization for decades. Barbara Mescher Michaux, Dear’s wife from 1985 to 1993, said Tuesday that her ex-husband once put glue in the locks of a Planned Parenthood clinic near their home at the time –and “that was over 20 years ago when he did that,” she says.
Michaux says she is absolutely certain her ex-husband went to Planned Parenthood specificially with the intent to attack. “For him to plan this and go there, he meant to go there,” she said. “There is no doubt in my mind.” The shooter’s ex-wife explained that Dear “used to be a very smart man,” but became unpredictable and violent over time:
“He would spin on a dime from being OK to being furious. He was abusive — very abusive emotionally, abusive physically. You never knew. It was always nerve-racking because you never knew what he was going to be like.”
At one point, Michaux says that Dear “knocked me down and beat my head on a concrete floor,” and that she once told her current husband that — had she remained with Dear — “I felt like he would have done me deadly harm.”
“I wouldn’t have married him if I had known he was the way he was,” she said.
Dear recently made his first appearance in court, and faces a minimum of life in prison with the possibility of the death penalty for his crimes. Watch his initial court appearance, below:

John Prager is an unfortunate Liberal soul who lives uncomfortably in the middle of a Conservative hellscape.
Prager spends much of his time poking Trump’s meth-addled, uneducated fans with a pointy stick and is currently writing a book of muskrat recipes (not really) as well as putting together a scrapbook of his favorite death threats. His life’s aspiration is to rule the world with an iron fist, or find that sock he’s been looking for.
