Donald Trump just destroyed accusations by conservatives that Clinton Foundation donors received favors from the State Department.
Republicans have been desperate to pin a scandal on Hillary Clinton ever since she became the next Democrat in line for the presidency.
They’ve tried and failed to blame her for the Benghazi attack. They have tried and failed to paint her as a traitor because of her emails. And they have even peddled bullshit claims about her health. So it was only a matter of time before Republicans tried once again to bring up the Clinton Foundation.
It’s an old “scandal,” of course. Republicans have tried this tactic before. It’s almost like they try something and then try again later as if their claims were never debunked the first time.
And of all the people who came to Hillary’s aid earlier this year when Republicans last whined about the Clinton Foundation, it is Donald Trump who matters the most.
During a January appearance on Fox News with Bill O’Reilly, the Republican nominee declared that he donated a lot of money to the Clinton Foundation as well but he never received any favors in return.
“And I have to tell you this, in all fairness, I thought that money was being put to very good use. I assumed it was being put to whether it’s Haiti or all of the different things that I heard about. I didn’t know about the private airplane rides all over the place and if you look at the kind of expenses that they charge and the way they lived, I had no idea that, but I will say, that as far as the foundation’s concerned, I assumed it was being put to good use, and so did everybody else that gave, and there were a lot of people that gave. They never really did anything for me, but I will say this, if I think they probably would have liked me, and, you know, whether you give here or give there, I got along with everybody, Bill.”

So Donald Trump debunked this line of attack months before Republicans started launching it.
And the Trump campaign is still doing it now.
Trump’s newest campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told Anderson Cooper on three occasions during an interview that the Clinton Foundation does “good work.”
This accusation that Hillary Clinton engaged in a “pay to play” system while Secretary of State to benefit the Clinton Foundation is yet another load of bullshit dropped by Republicans who are desperate to save their asses from the imploding Trump train that crashed and burned months ago despite Republicans pretending otherwise.
Donald Trump himself donated to the Foundation while Hillary was in office, and if anyone tries to get favors for himself in exchange for money it’s Trump and he says he received nothing in return. Now Trump is calling for the Foundation to be shut down and investigated. But he’s too dim to remember that he derailed his own accusations months before he was crowned as the new leader of the GOP. SAD!
