After being asked about calling President Obama the “founder of Isis” and doubling down on that claim the host on CNBC’s Squawk Box, who clearly things those words won’t do the Donald any favors in the voting booth asked Trump, “I’m wondering how you think that’s going to play in some battleground states?”
I’m a truth teller. All I do is tell the truth. And if at the end of 90 days, I’ve fallen short because I’m somewhat politically correct even though I’m supposed to be the smart one and even though I’m supposed to have a lot of good ideas, it’s OK. I go back to a very good way of life.
“Truth teller,” seriously? A man who has fueled his campaign with nothing but urban legends, blatant falsehoods and constant hyperbole is a “truth teller.” And yes, I’m sure it’s his over the top “somewhat political correctness” that is going to be the root of the problem that makes him go back to his former life of complete gluttony and greed.
He continued on with his rant, completely ignoring the fact that there is an actual interviewer on the phone with him who was trying to get a few words in edgewise.
Finally, Trump took a breath and a question finally landed, “You mentioned earlier how polls were, in your words, “tightening,” yet the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll has you trailing in battleground states such as Iowa, Ohio and Pennsylvania, by wide amounts. How do you close that gap?”
Oh, just more of the same, and if I lose, I’ll just go on a super-duper nice long vacation – very long, the best vacation, the only vacation anyone would ever want to go on because I KNOW vacations – no, seriously, that was basically Trump’s answer. He replied:
Just keep doing what I’m doing right now. At the end it’s either going to work or I’m going to have a very, very nice long vacation.
While Republicans continue to hope for the “pivot” of Trump, their candidate has other ideas. This man isn’t going to calm his rhetoric. He isn’t going to be less shocking, disgusting or disgraceful. He will continue to keep doing just what he is doing because, after all, he has plenty of money and will simply go back to living his “very good way of life” after all is said and done.
That’s the opposite of selflessness, patriotism and decency rolled into an absolutely horrific orange package.
And THAT is exactly why he should never be president. This is what happens to people when they have absolutely nothing to lose, because their wealth makes them untouchable. And, our country should not be in the hands of someone who is incapable of caring about the consequences for his actions and/or words because it’s simply no skin off his back.
That’s the making of dictators and monarchs – not presidents.
