Donald Trump Jr. has proven to America countless times that out of all of his father’s entitled, spoiled, bratty kids, he is by far the dumbest. Over the course of Trump’s presidency, Donnie Jr. has humiliated him and ratted him out more than once – and it’s just happened again with some bombshell Russia information.
Basically, Trump Jr. has just proven that his dad and the Trump campaign definitely colluded with Russia.
According to The Atlantic’s Julia Ioffe, there is now proof that Trump’s son and WikiLeaks had a 10-month correspondence during Trump’s presidential campaign, and continuing for several months after that. Ioffe wrote:
The messages show WikiLeaks, a radical transparency organization that the American intelligence community believes was chosen by the Russian government to disseminate the information it had hacked, actively soliciting Trump Jr.’s cooperation.”
Here’s a rundown of what occurred:
According to a source familiar with the congressional investigations into Russian interference with the 2016 campaign, who requested anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, on the same day that Trump Jr. received the first message from Wikileaks, he emailed other senior officials with the Trump campaign, including Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Brad Parscale, and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, telling them Wikileaks had made contact. Kushner then forwarded the email to campaign communications staffer Hope Hicks. At no point during the 10-month correspondence does Trump, Jr. rebuff Wikileaks, which had published stolen documents and was already observed to be releasing information that benefited Russian interests.”
As always, the plot thickens. In October, an exchange between Donald Trump Jr. and WikiLeaks took place, where WikiLeaks asked the Trump campaign to promote and comment about a story in which Hillary Clinton called for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to be droned. Trump Jr. responded, “Already did that earlier today. It’s amazing what she can get away with.”
And just a few days after that, Trump Jr. tweeted out some information that was sent to him by WikiLeaks. Trump Jr. then stopped speaking with WikiLeaks, however the organization continued to ask him to work with them. In a message from October 2016, WikiLeaks wanted his dad’s tax returns:
‘Hey Don. We have an unusual idea, Wikileaks wrote on October 21, 2016. ‘Leak us one or more of your father’s tax returns. Wikileaks then laid out three reasons why this would benefit both the Trumps and Wikileaks. One, The New York Times had already published a fragment of Trump’s tax returns on October 1; two, the rest could come out any time “through the most biased source (e.g. NYT/MSNBC).”
WikiLeaks told Trump Jr. that their strategy behind this was to “improve the perception of impartiality” so that the anti-Hillary content wouldn’t be “perceived as coming for a ‘pro-Trump ‘pro-Russia source.” WikiLeaks contacted Trump Jr. again on Election Day after that, stating that if his dad loses the election, he shouldn’t concede.
Just considering the things mentioned above, there’s more than enough information to see that the Trump campaign has been super shady in its conduct with Russia. But it gets even crazier – Ioffe made an update to her piece that includes an insane detail caught by Wall Street Journal’s Byron Tau – which shows that Trump Jr. tweeted about the release of John Podesta’s emails 15 minutes after WikiLeaks contacted him.
If this doesn’t prove that Trump and his campaign are guilty of collusion, we don’t know what does.
