The Democratic National Convention is only on day two, and already we have heard some amazing speeches. On Tuesday evening, Donna Brazile, who is the incoming interim DNC chair, brought down the house with an incredible speech.
Without revealing her age, Brazile noted that she had seen the transformation of civil rights in the United States.
I’m no spring chicken. I’ve seen some things in my time. And as a child I lived through and survived the “segregated South.” I sat at the back of the bus at a time when America wasn’t yet as great as it could be. As a grown woman, I saw the first black president reach down and touch the face of a child like I once was, lifting his eyes toward a better future.
But I have never, ever, in all of my years seen a leader so committed to delivering that better future to America’s children as Hillary Clinton.
Brazile continued to tout the former secretary of state’s dedication to America’s children, such as her decision to work with the Children’s Defense Fund rather than take a job with a high paying law firm when she finished school. She noted that when Hillary was fighting for the rights of minorities and those with disabilities, Donald Trump was fighting a court battle for discrimination because he refused to rent to people of color.
Hillary has never forgotten what she learned in that very first job. At her core, rooting her to this earth, is the belief that every child, black or white, native born, immigrant, or undocumented, they deserve to have the opportunity to live up to their god given potential.
My friends, as a child when I sat in the back of the bus, I was told time and time again that god’s potential did not exist in people like me. I spent my life fighting to change that. And from the first day I met Hillary Clinton, I’ve known that she is someone who cares just as much and will fight just as hard for children everywhere.
Poor kids, you’ve got a champion. Kids who live in poverty, you’ve got a champion. Kids who need hope, you’ve got a champion. As long as she’s in charge, we’re never going back. And that’s why, I’m with her!
After whipping the crowd into a frenzy with her rousing endorsement of the party’s nominee, Brazile also promised that as the incoming chair of the DNC she would make sure all liberals could be proud of their party and would work to see Democrats elected “up and down the ballot.”
