Donna Brazile, former chair of the DNC had some strong words for Trump just hours before he’s scheduled to debate Hillary Clinton for the final time. Her comment was in response to Trump’s claims that the election and the media are rigged for a Clinton victory:
Donald Trump does not have much appreciation for a free press… just for free press coverage for himself, surrogates and his pundits.

Trump’s claims are quite thinly veiled. On the same day, he can be heard claiming that he does not trust polls in this country and triumphantly citing the few that he’s doing well in. And his latest whining about our rigged system only began as his numbers started to sag. Until his unfortunate remarks on a video with Billy Bush he was nearly tied with Clinton. Back then his line of attack was all about margin of error and how Clinton being a few points ahead didn’t mean much.
However, margin of error only holds in one individual poll. If several in a row show that he’s a few points behind then they’re most likely accurate. Now that he’s well outside that margin suddenly polls cannot be trusted. He has a tendency to make remarks that “people have told him” he’s doing really well. As if some random guy on his staff outweighs the thousands of phone calls that go into these polls.
But Brazile makes another good point: this entire time Trump has been receiving free coverage from these same media outlets he’s now accusing of bias. So much so that he’s been able to avoid television ads almost completely. The New York Times estimated that this free coverage would have cost Trump $2 billion if he’d had to pay for it himself.
And all the while he continued to do better in the polls. These “biased” media sources didn’t cut him off or second guess themselves and their coverage. They just continued to show people what they wanted to hear. And Trump had no problem at all accepting all of that free attention. But now that the media narrative has gone sour he’s whining about it. The same machine that got him the chance to run as the Republican nominee in the first place.
Trump seems to have forgotten how he got where he is today. More likely he’s just not bothered by the restraints of reality. Many of those around him have remarked that he suffers from some truly remarkable delusions of grandeur. In his unstable state, the only way that he can be losing so badly is if someone cheated him. I can’t even imagine what sort of fit he’ll throw when he actually loses.
