Mike Webb is a conservative Republican running for congress in Virginia’s 8th congressional district. In order to feel more connected to his prospective voters, Webb has been taking care of all of the aspects of his social media himself. That turned out to be a big mistake. While trying to make a point about an FEC filing, Webb dropped a screenshot of his desktop on Facebook for the whole world to see:
Looks like a typical desktop from 2009 when people still used Yahoo. It also looks like someone forgot to close a couple of tabs that were tad on the “personal” side. The upper left-hand corner of Webb’s screenshot reveals he was visiting with Layla Rivera, voted the dirtiest actress in adult entertainment, and another page called “Ivone sexy amateur,” which has an 83 percent thumbs-up rating on Redtube
It was mere minutes before Webb found himself face-to-face with the hypocrisy a Republican of the religious right is always faced with in these situations: They’re human. Webb, rather than simply deleting the photo or coming up with a story that sounded at least a little bit believable, responded with a 2000-word unrelated diatribe with the explanation that the girls were just “research” stuck somewhere in the middle. Using the tried and true GOP strategy, “fill the hole with enough crap and people won’t see the filth at the bottom,” Webb just pretended like his indiscretion was reasonably explained.
Unfortunately, Mike, this is the interwebz. We find everything. Like on this phone bill, you posted to show you had contacted the FEC. Those are the numbers highlighted in yellow. See the number with the red box around it?
That number will look familiar to anyone who pays a monthly bill to “EZ Cam Host”:
Poor Mikey doesn’t have a leg to stand on. It’s a shame he decided to join the party that will crucify him for engaging in a perfectly legal activity in the privacy of his own home. Most Democrats would answer the question with “I’m over 18” or “sure, my wife and I watch it together,” or better yet, “seriously? If that’s what you got out of this you need a more gratifying job.”
Not when it happens to a holier than though “family values Christian.” No, then it becomes newsworthy and hilarious because what most of us really just don’t care about will haunt this guy all the way home in November.
