St. Petersburg, Florida Mayoral candidate Paul Congemi probably is going to have a teensy bit of trouble getting himself elected after an outburst on Tuesday in which he told a bunch of black people to “go back to Africa” after the idea of reparations for slavery was raised.
“Mr. Nevel you and your people talk about reparations. The reparations that you talk about, Mr. Nevel, your people already got your reparations. Your reparations came in the form of a man named Barack Obama,” he said, leveling a finger at his audience during a mayoral debate.
He didn’t explain exactly how the last duly elected President of the United States qualifies as reparations for slavery, but he has a message for black people:
My advice to you, if you don’t like it here in America, planes leave every hour from Tampa airport. Go back to Africa. Go back to Africa. Go back!”
Congemi is a truly horrible person. In January, he was charged with felony elder abuse of his 87-year-old grandmother who ended up in intensive care for bed sores.
During his failed 2009 race, he threatened police officers responding to calls from employees after he went insane over being told his food was ready. He was ultimately banned from the establishment.
