Donald Trump and the rest of the Republican party have once again let down America by failing to have difficult, critical conversations about gun control in the country.
America has just recently suffered another devastating mass shooting – this time in Texas – and conservatives still haven’t mustered up the ability to recognize that there is something very, VERY wrong with the relaxed gun laws in this country. Instead of fighting gun control with “thoughts and prayers”, we need Trump and the GOP to actually do something about it – but when you hear what was said on Fox News earlier today, it’s unlikely that that’s going to happen anytime soon.
This afternoon, Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt shocked viewers by trying to find a “positive” in the Texas shooting. In an extremely insensitive statement, Earhardt stated that the dozens of people who were shot dead at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, were actually lucky because they were close to Jesus when they died. Proving that Trump isn’t the only one who can be completely heartless in the wake of a tragedy, Earhardt said:
We’ve been reporting this shouldn’t happen in a church. But I was downstairs talking with some people that work here that we all talk about our faith and we share the same beliefs. We were saying there’s no other place we would want to go other than church.
Because I’m there asking for forgiveness. I feel very close to Christ when I’m there. So, I’m trying to look at some positives here and know that those people are with the Lord now and experiencing eternity and no more suffering, no more sadness anymore.”
There are just no words for that kind of response. It is sickening and extremely disrespectful to all those who lost their lives or lost a loved one during that horrific attack. You can watch the segment below:
