Donald Trump must be trying to do everything he can to fix his historically low approval rating, because he’s recently changed directions and begun using a different approach after several of the GOP’s initiatives have resulted in failures and damaged his popularity even further.
Recently, Trump turned to the Democratic Party for his budget deal, and was promptly rewarded with all sorts of positive press coverage. We all know that Trump is absolutely obsessed with how the press reports on him, so he was tickled pink (er, orange?) that the media reacted in such a positive way, instead of pummeling him as they usually do. As Trump gloats about this big change in coverage, the Republican Party knows it’s in big trouble – and they’re not happy about it.
In response to Trump’s decision to side with Democrats on a three-month debt limit extension, Republicans are furious. Unfortunately, Trump doesn’t give a damn because he’s too busy ranting and raving about how he’s being praised in response to his phone calls with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. One person familiar with the calls said:
He seemed super upbeat.”
Trump was so happy with the outcome that he even rattled off certain news segments that had showered praise on him, and told Schumer that he was watching. High on life and the media’s blessing, Trump even did exactly what Pelosi asked him to do, which was to reassure “Dreamers” that they would be safe while the DACA replacement was being drafted. Pelosi said:
I was telling my colleagues, ‘This is what I asked the president to do,’ and boom-boom-boom, the tweet appeared.”
Now that they are witnessing firsthand just how easy it is to manipulate their leader, the Republican Party is freaking out. One senior GOP official told Axios didn’t hold back and he stated the obvious:
He f*cked us.”
That’s what you get for electing an egomaniac. Now that Trump knows how to turn his image around, this won’t be the last time he betrays the GOP.
