It’s hard for Donald Trump to shock anyone with his disgraceful behavior at this point in his very disappointing presidency, but he managed to set a new low yesterday when he referred to immigrants that were from Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as being from “sh*thole countries.”
That “sh*thole countries” comment is yet another incident to add to Trump’s long list of racist behavior. This comment caused global outrage, as Americans and foreigners alike were infuriated by the ignorance of the President of the United States — and they’re hitting back at the president.
Last night, former Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe condemned Trump on Twitter. Giving Americans the reality check that we desperately needed, he said:
The world is witnessing a new low today with this #ShitholeNations remark! totally unacceptable! uncalled for moreover it shows a lack a respect and IGNORANCE never seen before in the recent history of the US by any President! Enough is enough!!”
The Associated Press reported that the Haitian government has also issued a statement that calls out Trump’s comments as being racist.
After the onslaught of backlash from his comments, Trump has decided to flex his cowardice and try to deny that he said it during yesterday’s DACA meeting. He even tried to blame Democrats for the “rumor.” Earlier this morning, Trump tweeted:
Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings – unfortunately, no trust!”
However, the White House has yet to deny Trump’s statements. Instead, White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah has released a weak, deflecting statement:
Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people.”
Judging by Trump’s previous racist comments about immigrants, it’s safe to say that he one hundred percent made that remark about “sh*thole countries.” And once again, his disgusting behavior will result in the world turning its back on us.
