Donald Trump has vowed that if elected president, he will “Make America Great Again.” Which begs the question, when exactly did America stop being great? Mother Jones decided to go out and ask some Trump supporters this very question, and their answers were telling.
Most went with the safe answer, that America didn’t ever stop being great, but dammit, Trump could make it greater. Most, but not all.
One woman said that as an American and a Trump supporter she loves her freedom and prosperity. She said “we also love to work” and to “share our prosperity,” but that she wants to decide who she shares her prosperity with rather than having the big bad government tell her who to “give it to.”
It’s my freedom, my money, my hard work, my labor. I can do what I want with it. And we want that freedom back. And the right to defend it.
She continued talking about the “misleaders” who are those people “who say they represent us.” She then began ranting about all the rights of American citizens are being violated, and proved that she doesn’t understand shit about how those rights actually work. She declared that they “pretend to defend your rights” but,
And everytime you wake up in the morning you find out there’s another new story telling you how one of your rights has been violated. How your first amendment rights are being violated, How I can’t say something to hurt your feelings.
The, she went completely off the rails:
If you were gay and you were a Muslim, because that’s what they’re saying now. Now all the sudden all these shooters are gay and they’re Muslim. I mean, really? How can you be gay and Muslim and expect to come to America and be free? Because that’s an Oxymoron.
That’s right folks. America isn’t great anymore because of gay Muslim shooters.
Another woman, who said she was 60-years-old, using the coded language that is so prominent in Trump’s campaign, explained that “we have been overlooked.” She explained that “we’re the mainstream here. I was born and raised in this country.” But she does take issue with people born right here in America that she called the “entitlement society” who she explained are “trying to scam the system, get freebies.”
She went on to say that she “started noticing things changing” about 30 years ago. She then explained that it isn’t just the rapey Mexicans coming into the country illegally that bother her, but being in the medical field herself, she also has a problem with well-educated doctors from other countries coming here to save lives too.
