The 2016 election has gotten so crazy that Hillary Clinton just found herself saying four words she “never thought” she would say about Ted Cruz.
Speaking during a rally in Tampa, Florida, the former secretary of state admitted the following to the crowd:
I never thought I would say these words, but, Ted Cruz was right.
Clinton praised the Texas senator for his refusal to endorse the bigoted billionaire and for telling conservatives to “vote their conscience” in his speech at the Republican National Convention.
“Something has gone terribly wrong when someone says ‘vote your conscience’ and gets booed,” Clinton said.
The presumptive Democratic nominee told voters to heed Cruz’s advice and vote for the candidate they thought would be best for the country and who best exemplifies their beliefs.
“In this election, do the right thing, and vote your conscience, vote for your future, vote for a United States of America,” she said.
All hell broke loose on Wednesday night in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena when it became clear that Cruz was not going to be giving Trump his endorsement. The crowd began chanting “Endorse Trump!” before booing him off the stage. His wife Heidi had to be ushered off the arena floor as the room full of conservatives lost their collective shit. Security had to step in to calm down Washington State Republican Party chairman Susan Hutchison who freaked out at the elevators calling him a “traitor to the party.” Billionaire GOP donor Sheldon Adelson denied Cruz entry into his luxury box “because he’s a piece of shit.” And this was before Cruz even managed to leave the venue.
Republican outrage continued, but despite the fury of his party, Cruz has stood by his advice to voters and his decision not to endorse Trump for president. Cruz said on Thursday that even though he pledged to support whoever the party chose as a nominee, he refuses to be a “servile puppy dog” after Trump’s attacks on his wife and father.
I have to agree with Clinton on this one. I never thought I would see the day that Cruz would do anything I could get behind, yet here we are.
