The entire country has been laughing themselves silly over Donald Trump’s “covfefe” gaffe and Hillary Clinton couldn’t resist the temptation to get in a few jabs herself on Wednesday.
During an interview hosted by Recode, Clinton just had to make a few jokes about Trump’s most recent late night tweet.
I thought it was a hidden message to the Russians,” Clinton said as the audience erupted in laughter.
“Despite the constant negative press covfefe,” Trump posted on Twitter a little after midnight, leaving the entire country to wonder what in the hell he was babbling about. The tweet stayed up for hours before it was finally deleted and Trump then tried to save face by tweeting, “Who can figure out the true meaning of ‘covfefe’ ??? Enjoy!”
White House Press Secretary was quick to follow Trump’s lead, insisting that “covfefe” a real word and certain extra special people are privileged enough to know what it means. Sure. Sounds totally legit. Do they really think anybody is buying this crap?
Clinton was quick to slam Spicer’s explanation.
“Ah, the small group explanation,” Clinton said. “You don’t have a high enough classification to know what covfefe means.”
However, at the end of the interview, Clinton got serious about “covfefe,” pointing out that this is yet another desperate attempt to distract the American public from the important issues at hand, like the Russia investigation.
“It’s to avert attention. It’s like covfefe. Trending! Worldwide! Maybe for a minute you’ll forget the latest accusation about them transpiring with Russia,” she said. “It’s the circus, right? It’s what a classic authoritarian does.”
