The Republican National Committee decided on Saturday to temporarily put a stop to funding for Donald Trump’s campaign. The RNC halted at least some of the “Victory” program’s operations, which supports Trump’s bid for the presidency.
The decision follows the release of a bombshell recording that featured the GOP nominee bragging about sexually assaulting women. Trump’s comments included such appalling gems as grabbing women “by the p*ssy,” which he claimed was acceptable because he was a celebrity and celebrities can do any damn thing they please. He also said that when he sees a beautiful woman, he just snatches her up and kisses her without her permission, because that totally isn’t the definition of sexual assault.
The RNC sent out an email to a mail vendor that works with the Victory program. The subject line read, “Hold on all projects,” and the email instructed them to “put a hold” on mail production.
Please put a hold/stop on all mail projects right now. If something is in production or print it needs to stop. Will update you when to proceed,” wrote Lauren Toomey, a staffer in the RNC’s political department.
CC’s in the email was Rick Wiley, a top RNC official. Although it is not known where all the email was sent out to, it was received by at least one RNC victory program vendor.
Neither Toomey, Wiley, nor an RNC spokesperson has responded to requests for comment.
Maybe Republicans are finally realizing just who they are running as their party’s nominee and that supporting this racist, misogynistic demagogue will be the end of the GOP. You don’t get more despicable than Trump. And while conservatives may have been just fine with dog whistling to white supremacists and even avoiding taxes, bragging about sexual assault may be the straw that breaks the right-wing camel’s back.
