While armed gunmen were mowing people down with assault rifles, Mike Huckabee was on the campaign trail in Iowa, wasting what little money is left in his war chest before he calls it quits and heads back to play Parcheesi with the Duggars in Arkansas. When word of the shooting in San Bernardino began to trickle into news feeds, Huckabee immediately tweeted the GOP stock response:
Praying for those impacted by the shooting in California today.

Of course you are. The prayers of a dozen politicians and the idiots who think that’s a suitable response to a massacre are the last thing the people impacted by the events of the day needed, but thanks anyway. Huckabee didn’t stop there. With absolutely zero information available and well before a single detail was released, the Huckster told reporters that he was certain that the shooter would be an unstable person and the location a gun-free zone. Reporter Alan He tweeted the details:

Typically you’d have to call a statement like that “unbelievable,” but is it? All Mike Huckabee is doing is pre-empting the story Fox News and the right-wing propaganda machine will spend the next week spinning. if the shooter were brown skinned or had an accent it would be Radical Islam. If the shooter were black it would be gang violence. When the shooter is white it’s an unstable “lone wolf” taking advantage of those confounded gun-free zones again.
Huckabee has quite a bit of egg on his face now that it’s out that there were not one but three shooters, dressed in tactical gear and wielding assault rifles and that not one of them shouted “Allahu Ahkbar!” No, this was just good old-fashioned American gun violence. Whether it was an anti-gub’mint act of right-wing terrorism, some kind of revenge or just a killing spree for sport, the fact remains that Americans were once again left in shock as yet another massacre happened right under our noses.
Huckabee’s ridiculous response will echo across the Republican world tomorrow as droves of conservatives come out to sweep the shooting of 20 people under the front porch rug. You know — the one with the NRA logo on it.
