Yesterday, Donald Trump completely failed to denounce the white nationalists rioting in Charlottesville, Virginia as violent clashes between demonstrators and counter protesters turned deadly. In response, Trump condemned the violence, but would not denounce white supremacy. He issued this very weak statement, criticizing violence “on many sides”:
We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides. It’s been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama, this has been going on for a long, long time.”
Today, Trump’s daughter Ivanka decided to call out the white supremacists in a way that her father failed to. She blatantly called out white nationalists in a far stronger statement than her father gave:
There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis. We must all come together as Americans – and be one country united.”
While it’s about time that someone in Trump’s inner circle condemned the white supremacists who demonstrated, Ivanka’s words were judged harshly due to the fact that Trump and several of his White House minions have openly supported white supremacy, racism, and bigotry. America didn’t fail to let Ivanka know who her father has surrounded himself with, and that his ‘leadership’ on this matter has been a massive failure. Here are some of the brutal responses in which Ivanka got torn to shreds:
The violence that happened in Charlottesville needs far more attention from the White House, and Trump is being shredded for his weak response. The Trumps have zero credibility when it comes to addressing and improving race relations in America, and they are surrounded by people even less capable to speak against white supremacy. Trump’s response to Charlottesville was disgusting, and it is not up to Ivanka to denounce this.
