Today, James Comey resurfaced and made Donald Trump regret every attack he’d ever made on the former FBI director.
Trump has been absolutely unhinged over the Thanksgiving holiday, and his tweets continue to get even crazier as the long weekend progresses. Earlier today, Trump went on yet another attack against the “fake news” media, targeting CNN specifically.
Promoting his own favorite conservative lie machine, Fox News, Trump tweeted:
@FoxNews is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them!”
It didn’t take long before Trump received backlash to that tweet, and a rather brutal response came from Comey himself. Comey didn’t hold back as he responded to the attack, using a Thomas Jefferson quote for good measure. Comey tweeted:
“Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.” – Thomas Jefferson, Jan. 28, 1786 pic.twitter.com/LEvy1hHRPI
— James Comey (@Comey) November 25, 2017
The quote Comey used was from a January 1786 letter to physician James Currie and perfectly sums up everything that is wrong with Trump’s constant attacks on America’s free press — with CNN getting extra attention from the unstable POTUS.
There’s likely nothing that Trump will hate more than being publicly shamed by someone who is far more respected than him (which is, at this point, pretty much everyone). Not to mention the fact that Trump had gotten rid of Comey to save his own a** in the Russian investigation in the first place. Comey has just shown Trump that he will continue to be a major thorn in the president’s side, reminding him that he’s a failure who has no business running the country.
