Watching Donald Trump destroy what was once a great country is painful for anyone — but the blow is especially hard for those who previously ran the country.
Just like former President Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter has been devastated by how Trump has been “leading” the country. Recently, the ex-POTUS was reported to be considering an intervention with North Korea as Trump continues to botch our relationship with the nation and escalate the situation on social media.
According to a University of Georgia professor who had recently met with Carter, the former president would like to talk peace with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and possibly save America from World War III in the process. Clearly, Carter has no faith in Trump to do the right thing, and we can’t blame him. Korea JoongAng Daily reported any agreement would include “a complete denuclearization of North Korea”:
Carter wants to meet with the North Korean leader and play a constructive role for peace on the Korean Peninsula as he did in 1994. He wants to prevent a second Korean War.”
It’s truly a shame that we can’t rely on our current president to keep us safe and resolve issues diplomatically. Unfortunately, Trump is a ticking time bomb and is unable to solve issues like a grown adult. Trump even recently criticized Rex Tillerson, his own Secretary of State, for trying to take a diplomatic approach with North Korea. Trump, blasting Tillerson in front of the entire world on Twitter, said:
Our country has been unsuccessfully dealing with North Korea for 25 years, giving billions of dollars & getting nothing. Policy didn’t work. I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man. Save your energy Rex, we’ll do what has to be done!”
Trump has also previously tweeted an obsession with using military force in North Korea. He tweeted:
Agreements violated before the ink was dry, makings fools of U.S. negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work!”
This is where America is right now. It is completely humiliating that we must rely on our former leaders to save us from our current one.
