Donald Trump’s comments about women have forced his running mate Mike Pence to cancel his own appearance at a campaign event in Wisconsin.
Pence made the decision on Saturday even though he was tapped to replace Trump at the event due to audio that was leaked yesterday revealing a lewd conversation Trump had with Access Hollywood reporter Billy Bush in 1995.
“You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them,” Trump said. “It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the p*ssy.”
The audio hit Republicans like a kick to the balls and many of them quickly distanced themselves from the Republican nominee, including House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Ryan had invited Donald Trump to appear at his Wisconsin campaign rally but withdrew the invitation immediately when informed of the remarks. Pence was supposed to appear at the event in Trump’s place.
“As a husband and father, I was offended by the words and actions described by Donald Trump in the eleven-year-old video released yesterday. I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them. I am grateful that he has expressed remorse and apologized to the American people. We pray for his family and look forward to the opportunity he has to show what is in his heart when he goes before the nation tomorrow night.”
Frankly, you would think a religious man like Pence would condemn Trump more strongly than this, but like many conservatives, Pence wants to have it both ways.
He should be calling for Trump to drop out of the race. Instead he wants to give Trump a chance to bullshit his way out of this situation while insisting that he is disgusted by the remarks. This from a guy who has spent his entire career trying to legislate vaginas.
