One of the most terrifying aspects of Donald Trump’s presidency is the nonstop attacks on America’s free press, which not only include unflattering Twitter attacks on a daily basis, but threats to restrict the media like the country is being run by a dictator.
America has never seen an administration try to control the media in such a way before, and quite frankly it’s been horrifying. From blacked out press briefings to Trump ditching his press pools, this administration is doing everything it can to keep America in the dark, and a recent recording of Trump proves this.
During a secret re-election fundraiser this week (which the media was not allowed to attend), Trump basically had a meltdown while speaking to his supporters. Obviously scared sh*tless about the attention his Russia scandal has been getting, Trump went off on a rant against the media, threatening to punish his most hated outlet – CNN – by suing the network.
During this fundraiser, Trump gloated over the fact that CNN had been forced to retract a story about one of his former staffers and was facing criticism. In audio obtained by The Intercept, Trump boasted:
Boy, did CNN get killed over the last few days. But as far as I’m concerned, I love it. If anybody’s a lawyer in the house and thinks I have a good lawsuit — I feel like we do. Wouldn’t that be fun?”
Then, Trump’s mention of a lawsuit got more serious as he threatened to sue.
Van Jones — you see this man? These are really dishonest people. Should I sue them? I mean, they’re phonies. Jeff Zucker, I hear he’s going to resign at some point pretty soon. I mean these are horrible human beings.”
We all know that Trump would LOVE to sue the free press, and it is revolting that he even wants to. Thanks to his untrustworthy administration and dishonest character, America can no longer trust its government and the media is the closest thing we have to the truth. For Trump to make threats like this is quite scary and demonstrates that he has no respect for American values. You can listen to the leaked audio below:
