It’s no secret that filmmaker Ken Burns isn’t a fan of Donald Trump’s. Last month, Burns offered a blistering attack on the GOP presidential nominee at Stanford’s commencement address. That speech went viral. Burns knows quite a bit about America’s presidents. Burns has been making films for more than thirty years and made documentaries on past presidents Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt.
During a Morning Joe appearance on Monday, Burns was asked whether Trump was the least qualified person to ever be a major party’s presidential nominee. Burns said there are historians who have Facebook pages, all baffled at Trump’s lack of qualifications to become leader of the Free World.
“William Leuchtenburg, the dean of American historians, said there is no precedent for this in American history, for someone without any credentials,” Burns told Joe Scarborough.
Scarborough wondered why Trump has so much support from conservatives.
“I think we are susceptible because of these changing times to a message of fear and easy solutions.” he continued. “There are no easy solutions, but he denigrates the much-maligned but very subtle art of governance.”
“It turns out that politicians have to do their job and sometimes it’s messy as you and I have discussed,” Burns continued. “But, you need somebody who actually knows how to get it done and who doesn’t just lie 200 or 300 times a day,” Burns added.

Mr. Burns isn’t wrong. Trump has no knowledge of basic geography or world affairs. He’s stunningly ignorant while arrogant at the same time, while never, ever admitting when he’s wrong. The ‘man’ has offended fallen war heroes, prisoners of war, women, minorities and our allies. It’s obvious why historians cannot understand Trump’s rise in the Republican party. Even though top Republicans denounced his recent attack on the family of a fallen soldier, they still did not abandon their endorsements of the GOP presidential nominee. They know the party’s nominee is a hot mess but they just don’t know what to do with it.
Meanwhile, the same conservatives who called President Obama the “Community-Organizer-In-Chief” in an attempt to allege that he had no experience in politics (Obama had 20-years of experience before taking office), are now touting Trump as the right man for the job. In contrast, Trump has zero experience in politics.
