A screamy ragey man flying a large Confederate flag on the back of his pickup truck was involved in two separate altercations in Volusia County in Florida, in which he brandished weapons and yelled racial slurs at the other driver. Also, Travis Thompson’s truck was “plastered” with Donald Trump stickers.
The 18-year-old was arrested Monday and charged with improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon in connection to the Nov. 11 incident, according to ClickOrlando.
A witness posted a video of the incident on Facebook, showing Thompson following a black Volkswagen Jetta in his silver Chevy Silverado truck.
The witness started filming when he observed the truck weaving and driving erratically in order to catch up with the Jetta.
From there, things got worse. Thompson, who was not wearing a shirt and only had on camouflage shorts and the driver of the Jetta pulled over. Thompson, who was armed with a wrench, confronted the driver.
Thompson launched a racial rant toward the African-American passenger in the Jetta and told him he was a member of the Crips street gang, according to police. In response, the passenger told the man he’s “tripping.”
Thompson tried to blame the incident on the occupants of the Jetta by telling police they flashed a gun at him and his girlfriend because their truck had a large Confederate flag on the back and had Trump stickers plastered all over it.
The witness said, “It’s really crazy if he went with a baseball bat against people he knew were armed with a gun. That doesn’t make any sense.”
Here’s the video posted on Facebook of Thompson armed with a bat:
The witness who took the video, Jean Jenner, told the police of the incident and gave them the video, but charges couldn’t be pressed at that time because the victims hadn’t stepped forward. Police identified the victims based on evidence in the video and they told the cops that since there were no physical injuries, they didn’t think the authorities could arrest Thompson.
But Thompson got into another altercation, this time armed with a bat.
“He got out of his car. He had a bat and he was, like, beating the guy’s car as if to break the windshield or something,” a witness told a 911 operator.
Karma’s a thing:
Thompson told police that since video of the incidents went viral on Facebook, his girlfriend has lost her job and they were evicted from their home. Thompson told police he has had to cut his hair, paint his girlfriend’s truck and remove the Confederate flag and Trump stickers from it to “avoid controversy.”
Thompson has threatened Jenner with a lawsuit but there is also a third incident involving the 18-year-old and an African-American man.
Standing in front of the Judge in court, Thompson cried during his plea to be let out of jail. We’re wondering if he told the Judge that his hate-flag is really about ‘heritage.’
