Alleged president Donald Trump cannot keep his foot out of his mouth. As a wise man once said, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt,” but the former reality show star just can’t help himself. Typically after each blunder, misspeak, or offensive remark, Donald Trump’s defenders pile in to tell us what they think he really meant or they just completely deny what he said, even if there were witnesses.
Case in point: Donald Trump called African nations, El Salvador, and Haiti “shithole countries” during a heated discussion on immigration in the Oval Office. Mike Pence tried to defend Trump’s appalling remarks by saying that he knows what’s really in his heart.
So, even though Trump offended the world, his vice-president suggested in an interview with the Associated Press while he is in Jerusalem that his boss is not a racist.
Pence said that he “knows the president’s heart” and that Trump does not consider an immigrant’s “race or creed” when formulating immigration policy.
“I know the president’s heart and I know that what President Trump wants to do is reform immigration to make our system one that puts the interests of America first,” Pence said. The Vice-President added that immigrants should be considered on their merits, “regardless of what country they come from or what their race and creed is.”
Pence, however, dodged a question about whether Trump’s language was appropriate, but he said his boss’s intentions have “everything to do with moving our country to a merit-based system.”
Pence is on a four-day tour of the Middle East, which should be really interesting since Trump has ostracized a good portion of that part of the world.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who was in the meeting at the time the ‘shithole countries’ remark was made, said that Trump had used “hate-filled, vile and racist” language to describe immigrants.
But, according to Pence, Trump has a good heart. We’re wondering what was in Trump’s heart when he had sexual relations with an adult porn star just after his wife gave birth to their son. We’re sure he can right-wing Christiansplain that, too. Somehow.
