Donald Trump has spent the entirety of his campaign telling the media and his followers that he should be elected because he “self-funds” his campaign rather than taking super PAC money from big donors. We know this is completely and utterly false, he has never financed his campaign but his supporters continue to believe his lies hook, line and sinker despite reports that prove otherwise. According to new campaign finance reports, Republican presidential campaign continued his quest to “self-fund” his businesses with donor money in August.
The report, which was released late Tuesday, revealed that Trump paid his companies more than half a million dollars in August.
The chief beneficiaries were Trump’s aviation company and his office headquarters in Manhattan: TAG Air was paid nearly $320,000 for operating the campaign jet and Trump Tower collected nearly $170,000 in rent for the month of August. Another $23,000 went to smaller Trump properties and businesses.
In addition to the money he paid to his companies, Trump increased the money he pays to a private security company by ten times. In July, the campaign paid the company $20,000, but increased it to more than $180,000 in August. The billionaire already receives Secret Service protection but apparently he doesn’t believe they are skilled enough to keep him safe.
The campaign finance report comes on the heels of an article by The Washington Post that uncovered shady dealings in the Trump Foundation. The Republican presidential candidate has allegedly been siphoning money out of his charity to pay for his legal debts and buy himself presents. The investigation by the Post also found that Trump hasn’t donated any significant amount of money to the foundation in almost a decade — it is being run solely on the money of others. This directly contradicts all of the statements he has made about his generosity.
It has become obvious to everyone with a brain that Donald Trump is not running for president because he wants to be commander-in-chief, he’s running because it is another way to make money — just like Trump steaks, Trump water, Trump University etc. What’s galling, though, is that his unfortunate basket of “poorly educated” deplorables are sending him their hard-earned money and he is spending it on himself. It’s like the political version of a prosperity church and just as disgusting.
