When Donald Trump called for Hillary’s assassination by “Second Amendment people,” most people were shocked. They just couldn’t believe that a presidential candidate called for the shooting death of his opponent.
It wasn’t an exaggeration. Trump’s own words were:
If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks. Although the Second Amendment folks, maybe there is. I don’t know.”
If you think he didn’t REALLY mean that, all you need to do is see Trump’s response when asked if he really meant it.
There can be no other interpretation. I mean, give me a break.”
It isn’t hyperbole to say that Trump called for a gun-related solution to the idea of Hillary appointing Supreme Court judges. He said it, then he doubled down saying there was no other way to interpret it. It isn’t about people who are extreme activists who will hold rallies, protests, and other such public events. This is about people with guns using threats or actions involving those guns to attack a sitting U.S. president.
Rudy Giuliani, one of Trump’s angriest little men supporters, appeared on Good Morning America, where he was asked about the comments. It would have been the perfect time for Rudy to attempt to “explain” things, and tell everyone how Donald didn’t REALLY mean that people should shoot Hillary.
He failed completely. He tried saying that Trump meant that people could stop her from being elected by voting against her. Then, he was reminded that you can only appoint SCOTUS judges after being elected, so his explanation was totally invalid. Then there’s the fact that Trump specifically said that nobody but gun-crazy domestic terrorists had the ability to stop these appointments. The argument simply didn’t hold water.
Then he changed the subject and started blaming Hillary for the fact that she got upset when Trump suggested “Second Amendment people” should stop her. According to Giuliani, it was the fault of the Clinton spin machine, who re-interpreted the words Trump said (except they didn’t re-interpret anything), that people are upset and getting the wrong idea about what Trump said.
You read the words Trump said above. They’re the same words that Trump said there was no other way to interpret. Rudy Giuliani thinks that when Trump threatened Hillary’s life, it’s Hillary’s fault people criticized Trump for the words he chose to say. What do you even say to that? It’s just an angry old white male blaming a woman one more time for being victimized by another man.
Sensing imminent defeat, Giuliani quickly played the gold standard when conservatives back themselves into a corner — he changed the subject. He immediately started criticizing Hillary for the fact that the Orlando shooter’s father supports her, AS IF THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT.
He said that the reason the father supports her is because she’s weak on Islamic extremist terrorism. So, by that logic what does it say if the former leader of the KKK supports Trump?
Giuliani ended by being condescending to the rest of the nation, by saying nobody knows Trump like HE knows Trump, and despite the fact Trump himself said what he said, then said there was no other way to interpret it, he knows Trump didn’t mean what he said.
Nobody believes you, Rudy.
