Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff is having a bad day, and rightfully so.
After all, John Kelly used to be a respected Marine General but he has become nothing more than a sycophant for Trump.
Earlier this year, Trump blamed “both sides” for violence and murder committed by Nazis and neo-Confederate protesters who stormed the city of Charlottesville, Virginia to defend a statue of Robert E. Lee from being removed.
Rather than avoid saying stupid shit to excuse slavery and the Confederacy, Kelly did the opposite during an interview on Fox News on Monday night.
“There will be, 100 or 200 years from now, people that criticize us for what we do, and I guess they’ll tear down, you know, statues of people that we revere today. I think it’s just very, very dangerous and it shows you how much of a lack of appreciation of history and what history is,” Kelly said. “I will tell you that Robert E. Lee was an honorable man. The lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War, and men and women of good faith on both sides made their stand where their conscience had them make their stand.”
Seriously. Trump’s Chief of Staff just did a hell of a lot of revisionist history. Let’s keep in mind that the South seceded because the candidate they supported lost to Abraham Lincoln. They didn’t even attempt to compromise. They just went straight to war. And the reason they did so is that they wanted the right to own other human beings, something that absolutely contradicts the concept of equality and liberty that is enshrined in the Constitution.
Kelly’s remarks enraged “Suits” and “Selma” actor Wendell Pierce, who took to Twitter to deliver a crushing response that should result in Kelly making a very public apology for his stupidity.
While they raped my Grandmother, lynched my Uncle, broke up my family to lost history, you find honor & compromise in that, you racist, prick? https://t.co/bOihrwd67N

With one tweet, Pierce demonstrated how foolish Kelly’s remarks about the Civil War are.
But Pierce wasn’t done. He further humiliated Kelly by posting a video featuring U.S. Military Academy at Westpoint History Department head Col. Ty Seidule explaining the causes of the Civil War.
John Kelly, this is an officer and a gentleman. Take note: Watch and learn https://t.co/IcBZJmJvqV

Kelly should be ashamed of himself.
