Sometimes being a part of the world of liberal blogging can be very frustrating. This is definitely one of those times.
Joe Scarborough started some buzz on Morning Joe Monday morning that is already turning some heads. In a segment about Trump’s failed convention, Scarborough asked some people who one might consider “in the know” if they had heard about an independent candidate with backing from the “Never Trump” Republicans who is about to announce his candidacy.
No, nobody but Scarborough, the most trusted man in nothing, has heard the rumors. Watch the segment below:
Notice the title of the segment. “Rumors swirl.” Joe Scarborough is well-known to be a sensationalist who manipulates the news. Liberals have been petitioning MSNBC since his show began to oust him.
That hasn’t stopped the blogosphere, and we’re not talking conservatives here, to run misleading headlines declaring that the Republican party is, in fact, going to run a conservative to challenge Trump. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Even if it’s true that Joe Scarborough has stumbled onto a new conservative entering the race, he wouldn’t have the backing of the Republican party. They have no system in place to oust their nominee. He would only be able to get on the ballot in states amounting to 300 electoral votes, meaning a landslide victory would be the only path to success. As the panel points out, lawsuits could work out in a few more states, but ultimately what we’re talking about here is a hail Mary not from their own end zone but from the next town over.
Scarborough fanned the flames with more speculation on Twitter, going so far as to name the man who was about to throw away several months of his life for no reason other than to give Republicans an even more definitive loss in November:
It’s an awful shame that “multiple sources” and unreliable rumors are already turning into “Breaking News! Republicans Are Running A New Candidate To Challenge Trump!” It’s not news, it’s not breaking, and it’s not worth wasting your time. If Joe Scarborough’s sources turn out to be true and Evan McMullin enters the race, it still won’t be “Republicans” who put him there. He’ll be an independent, 3rd party candidate who will probably get the backing of some Republicans who refuse to spend a dime supporting Lord Cheeto.
Come on, liberal bloggers…we’re better than this.
