OK, so let’s face facts: We’re liberals. We really don’t tend to care about things like photographs from a person’s past. We appreciate art and the human body. We don’t chuckle at the little peters on Greek statues. Ok, well maybe we do chuckle just a little, but that’s beside the point.
When the New York Post published pictures of Melania from the 90s, we weren’t outraged. We didn’t call her names like “slut” and “whore.” If you did, you don’t truly understand women’s issues or at the very least, you’re sadly misinformed. A woman’s body is her own. How she maintains it; how she chooses to display it; how she decides to control it, those aren’t any of our business. They aren’t a man’s business and they aren’t another woman’s business.
So why is every liberal blog playing along and reposting the pictures the Post has dug up? It’s not because Melania is a gold-digging tramp. Those are the kind of names Donald will call her after he divorces her when she gets too old for him in 3 years. It’s not because the pictures disgust us or because they disqualify her from being First Lady. Lying about her college degrees and plagiarizing speeches has already done that for her. No, we’re upset because the picture of her is being passed around the half-empty sock drawer of the Republican party and they love her for it:
The picture was dug up from a now-defunct 1990s magazine called “Max.” The French are notorious for nude photography because in a progressive society the human body is something to be adored and appreciated. It’s not pornography, it’s art.
To the American conservative, it isn’t pornography either. To them, it’s material to be deposited in the spank bank and yet another reason Melania Trump deserves to be First Lady. To the conservative, pornography is something that should be avoided. Pornography isn’t Donald Trump’s wife spooning with another woman. No, if you’re a conservative, this is what constitutes pornography:
Mrs. Obama took a beating over dresses with no sleeves because they were “unbecoming of a First Lady,” but when Melania poses nude, in a lesbian scene no less, there’s not a peep out of the right except to applaud her for her “bravery.” It doesn’t take a rocket doctor to figure out that it doesn’t take “bravery” to pose nude for a magazine; it takes a paycheck.
Shame on you, conservatives. Michelle Obama has served with the kind of dignity and grace you’d expect from a first lady; the kind of dignity and grace we could NEVER expect from Melania Trump.
