Trump has a knack for choosing advisers who are just as bat shit crazy as he is – case in point, Republican New Hampshire State Representative Al Baldasaro. The 22-year tenured Marine turned politician stirred controversy in the 2012 election when he “thought it was great” that a gay military serviceman was booed at the Republican Convention for speaking out against the archaic “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. He doubled down on that comment (because these guys can’t just spew their disgusting rhetoric once, they need to do it over and over again) saying, “He doesn’t realize it, but when the shit hits the fan, you want your brothers covering your back, not looking at your back.”
Baldasaro is co-chair of Donald Trump’s national veteran coalition and an adviser to the Trump campaign. He first advocated for the death of Hillary Clinton in July on “The Kushner Report,” a radio show on Boston’s WRKO-AM, saying:
Hillary Clinton should be put in the firing line and shot for treason.
The Atlantic reports that at that time the treason charge applied to Benghazi. However, when asked about the statement by the Boston Globe, he had changed the origin of the alleged treason to be the private email server:
When you take classified information on a server that deals with where our State Department, Special Forces, CIA, whatever in other countries, that’s a death sentence for those people if that information gets in the hands of other countries or the terrorists. As far as I’m concerned, that’s information for the enemy. In the military, shot, firing squad. So I stand by what I said.
Completely missing the point of how depraved it is that an adviser to a presidential candidate is calling for the death of his opponent, Baldasaro blamed “liberal media” for using the word “assassination” rather than “execution” he told MassLive.com on Tuesday:
The liberal media took what I said and went against the law and the Constitution and ran with it, and they said that I wanted her assassinated, which I never did. I said I spoke as a veteran, and she should be shot in a firing squad for treason.
So basically he just really wants Hillary Clinton killed.
And, that speaks volumes for the state of this election. The founding fathers of our country set up a system of government and elections so we can peacefully have a change in power, with checks and balances in place. Of course, it’s not just Trump’s adviser who advocates the killing of Hillary Clinton, Trump himself called for the assassination of Hillary Clinton at one of his rallies last week, and then quickly called it “sarcasm” after saying it multiple times.
Not that we didn’t know before, but we certainly know now – the Trump camp seems to celebrate the idea of the death of their opponent. In 2016, the election of the President of the United States is apparently a blood sport.
The people Trump surrounds himself with provides us all we need to know about what his America looks like. It’s one of hate and divide, death and destruction. Fascism is knocking at the door and for your sake, and mine, I hope voters put a lock on that door by voting in November.
