Donald Trump’s campaign CEO is just an all-around sh*tty person. Beyond being a bigwig with Breitbart, a publication best known for their misogyny and white supremacist viewpoints, Stephen Bannon has also turned out to be a woman beating anti-Semite. Now it has come out that he fired a woman for getting pregnant and having a chronic illness, which happens to be illegal.
According to the New York Post, about 10 years ago, Bannon fired a woman with Multiple Sclerosis who had just had a baby and was on maternity leave.
‘Julia Panely-Pacetti, a new mother who suffers from multiple sclerosis, was terminated by defendants from her position as head of public relations and corporate marketing because of her sex and her disability,’ states the lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court in September 2005.
The lawsuit explains that Panely-Pacetti’s firing was illegal because she was on maternity leave at the time she was terminated, which is protected by the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). As soon as Bannon found out that Panely-Pacetti was pregnant, she said things at her workplace changed almost immediately and he “treated her differently.”
The American Vantage Media Corporation, where Bannon was the head honcho, required her to perform all of her job duties from home while she was on maternity leave. Due to a “pregnancy-related health concern,” she began working from home a few weeks before she gave birth to her baby. Panely-Pacetti was actually able to keep up with her work despite the fact that she had just had a baby and was caring for an infant. On top of all this, she was in the middle of an MS relapse, which is common after a woman with the neurological disease gives birth. Still, she completed her workload, but Bannon gave her the ax anyway.
The case was settled in September of 2006, but the terms of the deal remain secret.
Just like when it comes to the allegations of wife-beating that surfaced last week and the claim that he refused to send his twin daughters to a school that had too many Jews, Bannon is insisting that there is no truth to Panely-Pacetti’s complaint.
A spokeswoman for Bannon said: ‘Ms. Panely-Pacetti was not fired but laid off with all the personnel in her entire division during a corporate restructuring where the parent company exited its international sales and marketing business, and shutdown its communications department.’
Of course, when it comes to an upstanding guy like Bannon, he is obviously the one telling the truth here. Clearly. He would never do anything illegal or as underhanded as firing a woman with MS who just had a baby without a justifiable reason. (Insert sarcasm here.)
Somehow, I am not convinced.
