Donald Trump is having a really, REALLY bad day. Earlier today, Trump’s former national security advisor, Michael Flynn, caved to pressure and flipped on Trump as he pled guilty to lying to the FBI about his contact with Russia. It’s a move that is significantly damaging to Trump and his family, and Trump is furious about it.
Trump’s rage toward Flynn started weeks ago, according to three sources close to the Trump administration. Those sources told The Daily Beast that a few weeks ago, Trump was absolutely seething over news reports that Flynn would flip, leaving Trump terrified that Flynn “turned on him.”
The Daily Beast reported:
Trump’s fears came into sharp focus this past month, as several media outlets began to report that Flynn appeared to be cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election.”
One of those sources, all of whom wished to remain anonymous, is someone within the administration. The other two are insiders close to the president. All three sources confirmed that Trump “began privately fuming” about the prospect of Flynn cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and turning on him. Two sources said, “it sounded at times as if Trump felt personally hurt by the prospect that someone whom he admired professionally and liked personally had potentially turned.”
Trump was so fearful of Flynn turning because he knew he would be screwed. Now his presidency and entire family are in jeopardy. Trump expects that people would have absolute loyalty to him, and he’s taking it personally. Now that Flynn has turned, it is only a matter of time before this Russia investigation closes in on him completely. Already, there are expectations that Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as his son Donald Trump Jr., will be Mueller’s next targets.
While we’ll have to see what will happen next in this investigation, we can be sure of one thing: Trump is going to have his most insane Twitter meltdown ever very soon.
