Americans have been absolutely horrified as Donald Trump continues to put the country in harm’s way. Over the last several days, Trump has repeatedly threatened North Korea with military action, only prompting Chairman Kim Jong-un to become equally aggressive in his responses.
Earlier today, Trump sent his most aggressive tweet to date, stating that things were “locked and loaded” if North Korea didn’t “find another path.”
Knowing full well that America currently has a child in the White House, other world leaders are now speaking out against Trump’s irresponsible tweets. Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany issued a response, warning against Trump’s irrational trigger-happy solution to the conflict. Providing a much-needed voice of reason to this mess, Merkel said:
I believe that, am firmly convinced that an escalation of rhetoric will not contribute to a solution of this conflict.
I do not see a military solution to this conflict, rather I see continuous work, like we have seen in the U.N. Security Council with members with resolutions in view of North Korea, and above all very close cooperation with affected countries, especially the United States and China, but also South Korea, of course Japan.
Germany will be intensively involved with potential solutions that we see, not of a military manner. But the escalation of rhetoric I hold as the wrong answer.”
We can only hope that other world leaders will weigh in the same way and show Trump that he needs to be an adult and stop acting out. If Trump keeps going down the path he’s on with North Korea, there will be dire consequences.
