We can totally understand Donald Trump potentially picking former Texas Rick Perry to serve in a federal agency under his administration. There are two reasons. In April, Trump expressed his disdain for one specific federal department above all others but it does not exist. Nevertheless, Trump vowed to eliminate it during the Fox News town hall.
Rick Perry, a two-time presidential candidate, is now reportedly in the running to serve as secretary of energy in Trump’s administration, according to McClatchyDC.
That’s the same position Perry said he wanted to get rid of.
Perry had a huge oops moment when forgetting to name the Department of Energy as one of the three agencies he wanted to eradicate as president during a presidential debate in 2011.
It went down like this:
PERRY: I will tell you, it is three agencies of government when I get there that are gone. Commerce, Education, and the — What’s the third one there? Let’s see.
PERRY: Five. Okay. Commerce, Education, and the —
PERRY: EPA. There you go.
Q: Seriously — is EPA one you are talking about?
PERRY: No, sir, no, sir. We are talking about the — agencies of government — EPA needs to be rebuilt.
Q: You can’t — you can’t name the third one?
PERRY: The third agency of government I would — I would do away with Education, the —
PERRY: Commerce and, let’s see. I can’t. The third one, I can’t. Sorry. Oops.
So back in April, Fox host Sean Hannity asked Trump if he would eliminate any federal departments as President, and Trump responded “largely, we can eliminate the Department of Education.”
Trump then added, “Department of Environmental, I mean, the DEP is killing us environmentally, it’s just killing our businesses.”
There is no ‘Department of Environmental.’ There is, however, an Environmental Protection Agency. So neither one could name the agency they want to get rid of but one of them may serve in one of them.
Perry is also under consideration for secretary of commerce and secretary of agriculture along with current Texas Secretary of Agriculture Sid Miller, the latter of which recently used the c-word in a tweet to describe Hillary Clinton. He’s a vile piece of excrement who almost makes Rick Perry look really chill.
