Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s speeches just get crazier and crazier as his campaign rolls on.
On Monday, the business mogul made a speech and took the opportunity to go on one of his infamous off-script rants to talk about New York bomber Ahmad Rahami, which then turned into a truly bizarre, ridiculous reading of “The Snake” lyrics, an R&B song from 1968.
During this speech, Trump demonstrated just how erratic and unstable his line of thinking is. First, he said he wanted Rahami to be tried immediately – but then he changed his mind and said Rahami should be treated like an “enemy combatant” and held indefinitely. During this long-winded tangent, Trump also whined about how Rahami was being treated at the hospital for his wounds, therefore getting “room service” and access to an “outstanding lawyer.”
Ever mindful that he’s on team GOP now, Trump made sure to do what every conservative does whenever something bad happens – blame President Barack Obama, and throw in Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton while he’s at it. Trump blamed the President and former Secretary of State for immigration policies that supposedly lead to naturalized citizens like Rahami being in the country. Then, he followed this up with a ridiculous reading of Al Wilson’s “The Snake” – and his hateful, bigoted supporters couldn’t get enough.
In the song’s lyrics, a woman is described as inviting a snake into her home to save him from freezing to death. Although she trusts the snake and believes the feeling is mutual because she has saved him, the snake ends up biting her. When the woman is surprised and asks the snake why he would bite her after she’d done so much for him, the snake says, “Oh shut up silly woman … you knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in.” Obviously, Trump is fear mongering again, trying to make a point about immigrants being the snake in this scenario.

While Trump’s fans might not have the brains to understand how wrong Trump’s little poem reading was, people on Twitter didn’t hesitate to lash out and point out just how disgusting of a display it was. Here are just some of the reactions:
Of course, people couldn’t help pointing out that in reading the poem in reference to refugees, Trump had put his racism and misogyny out on full display, once again.
Others were just shocked at the sheer absurdity of it:
If there’s anything more dangerous than Trump, it’s perhaps the fact that he’s got tons of rabid supporters out there that will carry out his disgusting, hateful messages whether or not he become the next President of the United States. If we are to keep America moving forward and safe for all people, Trump has to be defeated in November and his supporters need to be outnumbered by those who believe in equality and the good of humanity.
