Hillary Clinton’s Democratic National Convention was a major success. Her last night was marked with a powerful, optimistic speech and the historic milestone of a woman being nominated by a major political party for the first time. While Clinton and DNC attendees were happily celebrating, Trump was making threats to hit the DNC speakers – including Clinton.
On Thursday night, Trump became characteristically violent and volatile as he spoke about the amazing speeches at the DNC, many of which contained classy attacks against him. There had been speeches by iconic Democrats like President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton and Hillary’s own running mate, Tim Kaine. But there were also many Republican speakers that stood behind Clinton and it was clear that Trump felt insulted. What else does Trump do when he gets insulted? He becomes a child and lashes out with violence and bullying.
One particular speaker, who Trump referred to as the “little guy” had gotten Trump more riled up than the others – so riled up, that Trump wanted to “hit” him. That person was former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who gave such a great speech that Trump exploded and said:
I was going to hit one guy in particular, a very little guy. I was going to hit this guy so hard his head would spin, he wouldn’t know what the hell happened.
Obviously sour that many of the people Trump thought he could count on for support have abandoned him, Trump switched from bragging about how he’d beat up Bloomberg to insulting his former GOP presidential rivals. Trump attacked Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who he boasted had “never recovered” after being beaten and attacked by Trump during their campaigns. You can watch that moment below:
But of course, things had to get worse. Trump continued on, revealing that it was New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (who is also a former presidential candidate) who told him to stop focusing on his former rivals and start paying attention to Clinton. Or, to quote Trump word for word: Go out and hit Hillary Clinton properly. Trump said:
Finish it off, focus on Hillary Clinton. She’s crooked as hell. She’s going to do a terrible job. It’s four more years of Obama. Don’t worry about all these people that want to get up and get the spotlight for five minutes and then they’re going to go home and nobody is going to care about them anymore. Just go out and hit Hillary Clinton properly and win the election November 8.

Many might say that Trump is just using an expression, but when you look at his history it becomes much more. Given Trump’s very obvious hatred toward women and characteristically hot-tempered nature, this metaphor of “hitting” a woman is actually terrifying. He’s threatened to beat up protesters before, and let’s not forget that Trump has actually sexually assaulted women, so there he has a clear history of violence. Trump is actually a very dangerous, violent human being with uncontrollable rage and anti-woman rhetoric, whether it’s metaphorical or not, needs to be taken seriously.
