You can bet that this will happen a lot if Donald Trump becomes president.
Miguel Martinez is just ordinary 8th grader who rides the bus. His bus driver, on the other hand, is a bigot who constantly bullies the kids who speak Spanish. Northside Bus Company driver Mary Black usually turns off the cameras on the bus to demand that they obey her tyrannical rules.
But during one such incident, student Brayan Alverez took out his phone and captured video footage of Black’s tirade.
Black stopped the bus and confronted Martinez, accusing him of throwing a water bottle. Black escalated the encounter by trying to take Martinez’s phone away for no reason. When he refused to hand it over, Black grabbed the water bottle and proceeded to pour water all over him.
“She tried to take his phone away and when she didn’t get to do that, she just grabbed the water bottle and started getting him wet,” Alverez recalled.
Martinez tried to talk to Black but she refused to enter into any kind of dialog with him.
“I don’t understand Spanish,” Black bellowed. “I’m not going to learn it. I live in America and it’s an English-speaking country. So if you want to speak to me, speak to me in English.”
According to another boy’s father, Juan Espino, Black has banned the Spanish language from being spoken on her bus. “He told me he was told by the bus driver that it was not allowed to speak in Spanish while riding the bus,” he told KTVB. “When I talked to one of the other kids, he told me that when that took place the driver would turn, when something like that happened, the driver would turn the cameras off.”
After reporting Black to the company she works for but getting no results, he decided to release the video Alverez took, which led to her being fired.
Here’s the video via KTVB.
The way Black handled the situation was wrong and she definitely deserved to be fired for her actions.
But this is something that will only happen more often if Donald Trump and Republicans have their way. For years, conservatives have been longing for the day when they can ban Spanish in this country. And the way Donald Trump has treated Latinos is why he faces a historic defeat among them in November.
Should Trump get elected, we can expect his racist supporters to become emboldened, meaning more bullying incidents such as the one above would become an every day occurrence.
