Donald Trump’s “Made in America Week” is apparently turning out to be a disaster, and he has his favorite daughter Ivanka to thank for that.
On Sunday, White House spokeswoman Helen Aguirre Ferre announced the themed week, which includes appearances and promotions by Trump to bring attention to products that are made in America (which means most of his own products probably won’t make an appearance). However, “Made in America Week” pretty much fell apart when Ferre was asked if Trump would use the week’s theme to get Ivanka to move the overseas manufacturing of her own brand to the U.S. Unable to come up with a good response, Ferre crumbled
“We’ll get back to you on that.”
Politico reported that the week-long event will include “a ‘product showcase,’ in which American-made products from all 50 states will be brought to the White House. On Wednesday, the president will issue a proclamation on the importance of making products in America.”
Honestly, the hypocrisy of Trump’s event deserves to be exposed by his own daughter. It’s absolute insanity that Trump is hosting a “Made in America Week” when the Trump brand is made by at least a dozen other countries. The Washington Post pointed this out:
“For Trump, highlighting U.S.-made products is inconsistent with his practices as a businessman. For years, the Trump Organization has outsourced much of its product manufacturing, relying on a global network of factories in a dozen countries — including Bangladesh, China and Mexico — to make its clothing, home decor pieces and other items.”
This is just another example of why Trump can’t be taken seriously. “Made in America Week” is just a pathetic PR attempt to distract from Trump’s Russia scandal, and it just failed miserably. Did he really think that Americans wouldn’t call him out?
