The last 48 hours have been absolute chaos in the Trump White House. Despite the fact that Donald Trump’s administration is well known for having the fastest turnover when it comes to staffers, what has happened over the last two days has been pretty shocking. In just the last 48 hours alone, five of Trump’s senior officials in the executive branch have walked out on him, resigning from their positions. And no one would be surprised if more follow as the chaos plays out.
Things began with former White House staff secretary Rob Porter, who resigned after two allegations of domestic violence surfaced and dominated headlines. Shortly after Porter’s resignation, another White House official and a Justice Department official took off on Trump, resigning from their positions in the White House.
The New York Times recently reported that Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand, the number two official in the Russia investigation, was leaving the Trump administration, along with her assistant. This happened almost right after news broke about White House Deputy Chief of Staff John Carroll resigning after Politico reported that Chief of Staff John Kelly wasn’t happy with his performance.
Two top Justice Department officials have also resigned – Mike Kortan, the FBI’s public affairs assistant director, and David Laufman, the DOJ’s counterintelligence and export control chief.
And believe it or not, we may be looking at yet another resignation in no time. According to ABC News, Chief of Staff John Kelly has told Trump that he’s willing to resign for publicly defending Porter – a move that infuriated the president (even though Trump himself has defended Porter, calling him “innocent”).
Trump’s White House is extremely unstable at the moment as more of his administration bails on him. Before he knows it, Trump will be all alone.
