It’s hard for Donald Trump to shock anyone with his excessively unpresidential, unprofessional behavior at this point in his presidency, but he never fails to impress in this area. Despite how predictable Trump’s antics have now become, this will surprise even the biggest Trump critics.
It’s just been reported via The Washington Post that Trump had an extremely shocking encounter with acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe last year that was so bad it left McCabe feeling notably “disturbed.”
According to The Post, Trump called McCabe to the Oval Office in 2017 and asked him who he voted for in the 2016 election. The Post has gathered this information from several former U.S. officials, who stated that this meeting was supposed to be a “get-to-know-you” type of conversation after Trump had just fired former FBI Director James Comey. Instead, Trump asked that very inappropriate question, which greatly disturbed McCabe.
Although the head of the RNC, Ronna Romney McDaniel, has since defended the president’s questioning of McCabe’s political leanings, most would conder it not just unprofessional, but deeply personal. And Trump is precisely the kind of man who will hold your personal beliefs against you if they don’t align with his own.
The Post also reported that Trump “vented” about the approximately $500,000 in donations that McCabe’s wife, Jill, had gotten during her bid for Virginia state Senate in 2015. Those donations were given to her by a political action committee headed by former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who happened to be a friend to Hillary Clinton.
This is disgraceful behavior from the President of the United States, who seems to have absolutely no filter when it comes to professional discussions and relationships.
Clearly, Trump had it out for McCabe and this went far past that highly inappropriate conversation. When McCabe returned to his role as deputy director after Christopher Wray was confirmed as the new director in August, Attorney General Jeff Sessions pressured him to fire McCabe — which resulted in Wray reportedly threatening to resign. All things considered, it’s more than likely that Trump had something to do with that.
