Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) had some very sad news on Thursday for alleged president Donald Trump. The South Carolina Senator, who recently appeared to be warming up to the former reality show star, announced that the investigation into the alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia appears to be a criminal investigation.
“It seems to me now to be considered a criminal investigation,” Graham told reporters.
The Hill reports:
Graham’s remarks came shortly after the Senate met with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel on the Russia investigation Wednesday.
Graham said that the creation of the special counsel will likely hamper congressional probes.
“I think a lot of members want the special counsel to be appointed but don’t understand that you’re pretty well knocked out of the game. And that’s probably the way it should be,” he continued.
Graham said that he wasn’t able to ask specifically if it was now a criminal probe “but the takeaway I have is everything he said was that you need to treat this investigation as if it may a criminal investigation.”
According to CNN, Graham said that he thinks “Congress’ ability to conduct investigations of all things Russia has been severely limited, probably in an appropriate fashion.”
Meanwhile, at the White House, Trump told reporters repeatedly, “Believe me, there no collusion.”
Just now in a press briefing, Trump again called the investigation a “witch hunt.” He said that “everyone thinks the idea” of him doing anything criminal is “ridiculous.”
“Russia is fine, but whether it’s Russia or anybody else, my total priority, believe me, is the United States of America,” Trump told reporters at a lunch he hosted.
Trump did not say anything negative about Russia, but instead, he lashed out (again) over special counsel being appointed to investigate possible ties between his campaign and Russia.
He said “it’s a very, very negative thing” which “hurts our country terribly.”
Former FBI Director Robert Mueller is now tasked to see if crimes have been committed and bring charges accordingly.
Graham said if he was Mueller, he would “jealously guard the witness pool.” We suggest food tasters.
We’re waiting for Trump supporters to lead “Lock him up!” chants. C’mon, MAGAs, let’s hear it!
