Chaffetz has played a big role in trying to keep the media covering the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server. He spent the first several months of the campaign doing everything he could to waste taxpayer dollars on a free smear campaign for his party. Since the beginning, he has tried to force through the idea that Clinton’s emails are somehow related to a still unsubstantiated conspiracy in Benghazi.
Chaffetz admitted in 2012 that he intentionally voted to withdraw funding from the Libyan embassy. He called the decision a “difficult choice” borne out of a funding shortfall. But despite his own involvement in the strength of security forces that night in Benghazi, Chaffetz places all the blame for our dead ambassadors at the feet of the administration.
He was similarly tone deaf during his latest interview with Wolf Blitzer. Despite the fact that his candidate for President is the one that allegedly sexually assaulted a dozen women he spent several minutes moralizing about his respect for women:
I will never support condone defend anybody’s actions – whether they’re words or actual actions – to defame or demoralize or take advantage of women. In any way shape or form. I want my daughters to understand that I want America to understand that.
Finally, after several minutes of beating around the bush Blitzer gets around to asking the question that was on everyone’s mind: how did Chaffetz know about the FBI’s letter to Congress before they did? After a short stammering fit, he proceeded to completely deny the allegation that he had any prior knowledge.
At one point he even seemed to have trouble getting his story straight:
No I didn’t have any insider information of that. But Bob Goodlatte and I the chairmen of the judiciary just in the last hour have put out a preservation letter to the department of justice saying: “Please with this new investigation” – I mean supposedly – I’m reading about it in the media like you are. Uh just going into Anthony Weiner and his proximity to Hillary Clinton and this whole mess that’s out there.
