Once again, Republicans think that just saying mere words will make all of our problems just magically disappear.
In recent months, Republicans have been criticizing President Obama for not saying the words “radical Islamic terrorism” because they seriously think saying the phrase is going to cause ISIS to lay down their weapons and surrender en masse.
Now they think just saying “All Lives Matter” is the way to stop police officers from shooting and killing black men.
That’s exactly what former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said during a phone call with Fox News host Shepard Smith on Sunday.
Jindal called in to talk about the shooting of several police officers in Baton Rouge.
It is time for folks across party lines and across ideological lines to condemn this violence, to condemn this insanity. We’ve gotta come together. We gotta say that All Lives Matter. Doesn’t matter what color you are, black, white, brown, red, it doesn’t matter. All Lives Matter. We’ve gotta protect and value our beliefs…
Smith interrupted Jindal to inform him that the “All Lives Matter” phrase is “one that’s seen by many as derogatory” towards those who are trying to bring attention to the fact that black people are being unjustly killed in the streets by police officers.
Jindal responded by claiming that all police officers are heroes and that we should “move beyond race” and took a shot at Black Lives Matter by calling it divisive.
Here’s the video via YouTube.
Shepard Smith was right to call out Jindal for using the “All Lives Matter” phrase. That phrase was coined by conservatives as a way to shift focus away from the legitimate grievances of black people in this country. In other words, people who use this phrase are being racists.
And no explanation of “All Lives Matter” is better than this one offered by Twitter user Belac Michael on July 5th.
#AllLivesMatter is like I go to the Dr for a broken arm and he says “All Bones Matter” ok but right now let’s take care of this broken one

Or as Bill Maher once said, “‘All Lives Matter’ implies that all lives are equally at risk, and they’re not.”
Of course, conservatives ignored that “All Lives Matter” is a racist phrase and instead focused on attacking Smith and calling for him to be fired.

It goes on like that for awhile on Fox News’ Twitter page.
But simply saying that phrase will not magically reduce the epidemic of black people being unjustly killed by police. We know this because the phrase has been in use for awhile but police are still killing black people in the streets. There is systemic racism within some police departments in this country and it needs to be rooted out. Police departments need to make sure they are hiring people who do not have ties to white supremacist groups or are racist. They need to make sure officers are trained to exercise restraint with their weapons no matter who they are confronting or what color their skin is. The “All Lives Matter” campaign is about pretending that black people are not suffering in this country. It’s about ignoring them and what they go through every day.
Bobby Jindal should have stuck to discussing the shooting situation. Instead, he just made things worse.
